Girls Varsity Volleyball at Zeeland East Tournament

The Kenowa Hills varsity volleyball team traveled to Zeeland East on Saturday where they had some great plays throughout the day but came up short on the scoreboard, suffering 0-2 losses to Vicksburg, Zeeland West, Northview, and Jenison.

In the opening match against Vicksburg, the Lady Knights were led by Gracyn DeMann with 3 kills and MaKenna Joustra, Anna Longcore, Megan VanHorn, and Hali Blik with 2 each.  Setting up the offense was MaKenna, who tallied 9 assists.  At the serving line, MaKenna also recorded 2 aces while Macey Sevigny, Kyla Reichert, Gracyn, Hali, and Anna all served 100% for the match.  Defensively, Macey hustled for 17 digs along with 5 each from Gracyn and MaKenna. 

Leading the way in their match against Zeeland West, Hali crushed the ball for 5 kills and Megan added 4. MaKenna set the ball for 7 assists. With the lone ace for the Knights, Hali served tough in addition to serving 100% along with Anna, Kyla, Gracyn, MaKenna, and Mishelle Bergsma.  Macey led the defense with 17 digs, followed by MaKenna, Mishelle, and Hali, who each recorded 5 digs.  At the net, Laura Perrin and Megan each collected 3 blocks for the Lady Knights.

In their next match against Northview, the Lady Knights played some great volleyball, led by Mishelle’s 2 aces and 100% serving from Macey, Kyla, MaKenna, and Anna. The back court was led by Gracyn with 8 digs and Macey with 7. At the net, Megan stuffed the Wildcats 2 times in addition to MaKenna, Anna, Laura, and Hali, who each added a block for the Knights.  Setting duties were handled by MaKenna with 8 assists, and Gracyn and Hali smashed the ball from the outside for 7 and 2 kills, respectively.

In their final match of the day, the Lady Knights couldn’t get past the Wildcats from Jenison despite their efforts. 100% serving for Kenowa Hills came from Kyla, MaKenna, Gracyn, Hali, and Madi Skinner; and Gracyn and Madi each scored an ace for the Knights. Strong blocking came from Megan and Gracyn, who stuffed Jenison 2 times each. Anna ran down the ball for 9 digs, followed by Macey with 8.  On the offensive side, MaKenna set up the hitters for 7 assists, and Anna, Hali, and Megan led the attacking efforts with 2 kills apiece.

The Lady Knights will return to OK Black Conference play on Tuesday when they take on the Red Hawks from Union High School and also celebrate Senior Night.  Go Knights!
