The varsity volleyball team opened league play last night with a 0-3 loss to Fruitport followed by a dominating 3-0 victory over Union.
In the opening match against Fruitport, the Lady Knights were led by Megan VanHorn with 6 kills and Hali Blik and Laura Perrin with 5 each. Setting them up was MaKenna Joustra, who tallied 18 assists. At the serving line, Anna Longcore recorded 1 ace while Macey Sevigny, Gracyn DeMann, Madi Skinner, and Anna all served 100% for the match. Defensively, Macey hustled for 14 digs and Gracyn added 10. Anna and Megan also stuffed Fruitport with one block each.
Leading the way in their win over Union, Megan crushed the ball for 8 kills and Gracyn added 5. MaKenna set the ball for 13 assists, and Mishelle Bergsma also set for 3 assists. With 6 and 3 aces respectively, Megan and Kyla Reichert served tough against the home team, and 100% serving came from Macey, Anna, and Madi. Macey led the defense with 10 digs, followed closely by Kyla, Laura, and Gracyn, who each recorded 6 digs. At the net, Laura, Gracyn, and MaKenna each collected a block in the victory.
