Girls Varsity Volleyball at Kent City Dig Pink Invitational

The varsity volleyball team traveled to Kent City for their Dig Pink Invitational on Saturday where the Lady Knights claimed victories over Union and Oakridge and lost to Grant and Kent City.

Starting the morning against the Grant Tigers, Kenowa Hills was led by Megan VanHorn with 8 kills; Anna Longcore and Hali Blik added 3 each.  Running the offense was setter, MaKenna Joustra, who tallied 9 assists.  The team served perfectly at the serving line with Macey Sevigny, Madi Skinner, Mishelle Bergsma, Autumn Cole, MaKenna, Hali, and Anna all serving 100% for the match.  Defensively, Macey had 9 digs along with 8 from Hali. 

Leading the way in their 2-0 victory over Union, Hali and Megan each crushed the ball for 5 kills from MaKenna, who set the ball for 11 assists. With 4 aces apiece, Hali and MaKenna led the Knights with tough serving, and 100% serving came from Anna, MaKenna, Madi, Macey, and Autumn.  Macey led the defense with 7 digs, followed by Autumn and Hali, who each recorded 4 digs.  At the net, Madi collected 2 blocks, and Laura Perrin added 1 for the Lady Knights.

Advancing into the gold bracket, the next win for Kenowa Hills came against Muskegon Oakridge 2-1. The Lady Knights played a great match, led by 3 aces from MaKenna; Rylee Cook and Autumn each scored an ace for the team as well. Macey, MaKenna, Hali, and Anna each contributed by serving 100%. The back court was led by Macey, who hustled for an incredible 22 digs and Rylee tallied 10. At the net, Megan stuffed the Eagles 5 times followed by Anna and Laura, who each added 2 blocks for the Knights.  Setting duties were handled by MaKenna with 22 assists, and Hali’s season-high12 kills helped the Knights to claim the victory.

In the semi-final match, the Lady Knights couldn’t get past the tough serving from Grant in their rematch. 100% servers were Macey, Mishelle, MaKenna, Anna, Rylee, and Hali. Strong blocking came from Megan, Anna, and Laura, who stuffed the Tigers 3 times each. Macey and Hali ran down the ball for 4 digs each, followed by Anna with 3.  On the offensive side, MaKenna set up the hitters for 7 assists, and Hali and Megan led the attacking efforts with 3 and 4 kills respectively.

In the consolation match, Kent City topped the Knights 2-0.  Mishelle, Autumn, Anna, and Hali each recorded an ace for Kenowa Hills.  Macey, MaKenna, Mishelle, Anna, Laura, and Hali all served 100% in the match. MaKenna led the offense with 14 assists; and Hali killed the ball 6 times followed by Laura with 4.  Defensively, Macey dove for 14 digs and Anna added 7.  MaKenna and Laura each recorded a block for the Knights, who finished the day with a 4th place finish.  Terrific serving for the day came from Anna, Macey, MaKenna, Mishelle, Madi, and Laura, who all served 100% for the entire tournament – great job, ladies!  

The Lady Knights return to OK Black Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Mona Shores.  Go Knights!
