The Kenowa Hills Knights traveled to Spring Lake on Saturday, Oct. 10, for the Best of the West quad that also included Reeths Puffer and Calvin Christian. In the opening round against Calvin Christian, Kenowa Hills lost 0-2. Anna Longcore paced the Knights with 3 aces, and Austin Van Putten added 1. 100% servers were Rylee Cook, Lucy Jennette, Olivia Granger, Kelly Walski, Anna, and Austin. Austin also led with 7 assists, and Laura Perrin led hitters with 5 kills. Defensively, Anna led with 9 digs followed by Rylee with 8. Laura had the lone block for the Lady Knights against Calvin Christian.
In their match against Reeths Puffer, the Lady Knights fought hard for the 2-1 victory. Leading the way at the service line was Austin and Abby Chapman with 3 aces apiece, and Lucy added 2. 100% servers included Rylee, Abby, and Anna. Austin led the offense with 12 assists and Abby added 6. Leading hitters for the Lady Knights were Anna with 8 kills followed by Laura with 6. Rylee came up with 10 digs for Kenowa Hills, and Anna added 6. At the net, Shelby Porter stuffed the Rockets 4 times followed by Lily McCarthy with 2 blocks.
The Lady Knights came from behind in the deciding set against Spring Lake to claim the exciting 2-1 victory. Austin served up 4 aces, and Anna and Rylee each served 2 aces. Rylee, Lucy, Olivia, Austin, and Anna all served 100% for the match. Abby led the offense with 10 assists, and Austin added 8. Hitters were led by Laura with 7 kills and Lily with 4. In the back court, Rylee came up with 12 digs followed by Anna with 11. Shelby led blockers with 3, and Laura and Lily each had 2 blocks for the Lady Knights to cap off their second victory for the day.
The Lady Knights travel to Wayland on Wednesday for the opening round of the OK Gold conference tournament. Go Knights!
